Pantone's Color of the Year for 2013: Emerald Green

They've done it again! Pantone has chosen Emerald - Pantone color 17-5641 to lead the color way for 2013! The choice of emerald is defined as "a lively, radiant, lush green inspired by the vast & various green found in nature." Although it's calling out specifically "emerald" as the color of the year (COTY) I'm sure we'll also see variations of this already strong color trend. Many people already like greens, wear greens, live with greens and design with shades of green. One nature inspired green that already encompasses different facets of green is Malachite. Malachite was recently spotted at the Fall 2012 High Point Market: Malakos Malachite designed by Dwell Studio for Robert Allen. Popular back in the 80's and the 90's, malachite along with marbling I'm sure will be making its way to retailers in 2013. One retailer who is already on the emerald green-board is JCPenney, who will be debuting Pantone's Emerald green in its newly revamped Home Division for Bedding & Bath in February 2013. Also, as Pantone did in 2012 with Tangerine Tango, Pantone will be teaming up with Sephora - inside JCP with a cosmetic launch in 2013 as well.

From Kelly greens, to grass greens, to lime greens - yellow base and blue base greens will have a strong influence in the next coming year for the products we'll buy... for our wardrobe and our home. I believe it will continue to be the standout color to pair with classic black & white, on trend gold, as well as timeless leopard patterns...

And all this green works perfectly now for holiday!
Speaking of holiday: I had planned on having some more photos of our Christmas decor posted yesterday, but I had gotten a text to meet for a consultation for color & a couch, which will now also be an installation at a local doctors office (Ironically, the color I suggested (a Benjamin Moore color) and she went with IS a shade of green!) ... And I just had to also take a moment to share the wonderful news about the new color of the year for Pantone!

  1. Nice round up, but I don't think they led the way. Designers, decorators, bloggers, and stylists have been have been hot on this hue of green for three years and counting. Pantone just caught up with us.
